Martin Ennals Award for Iranian Human Rights Defender

The prestigious Martin Ennals Award 2009 will go to the Iranian human rights defender and journalist Emadedin Baghi. Baghi (1962) is a journalist and human rights activist. Since the 1980s he has been involved in peaceful efforts to improve the human rights situation in Iran, to achieve better treatment of prisoners and to abolish death penalty.

UNAIDS defines civil society broadly to include AIDS service organizations, groups of people living with HIV and AIDS, youth organizations, women’s organization, business, trade unions, professional and scientific organizations, sports organizations, international development NGOs, and a wide spectrum of religions and faith-based organizations, both globally and at country level.

The Oversight Committee (OC) have made twelve Country Reports available to Stakeholders, as well as a regional study of the Pacific Region.

The Country Reports are used as part of the assessment of UNAIDS overall performance, the full evaluation report will be presented to the PCB Chair in September of 2009 and be part of the discussion at the 25th PCB.
